Welcome to WHEELS for LIFE! We are a Banff-based project aiming to pull together modest acts of generosity and community spirit to changes lives forever. Through a series of small donations and fundraising events, our goal is to provide the gift of an ambulance to remote communities of Central America who have never had the support of any emergency medical services. 

Imagine a world without 911... a world without any emergency medical services, where even small accidents can quickly become serious emergencies because there are no resources or trained personnel to handle them properly. In this world, the only risks you can justify are in the pursuit of your basic survival needs. You don't have the lifestyle luxury to participate in recreation or risky sports because a minor injury can easily ruin your livelihood or leave you permanently disabled.

Luckily for us, our world doesn't leave us that vulnerable. It's quite the opposite: we are born into an incredibly safe, sheltered, and protected world. Our 3 year-old children can save lives by calling 911. It's the first phone number we learn. The "safety net" in place to catch us has been carefully woven over time, and is in a constant state of reinforcement and improvement. It is a net virtually without holes, and as a result we are seldom out of range of emergency or rescue services. This affords us the incredible freedom to pursue high risk recreation while always maintaining the best chances of survival, recovery, and return to good health no matter what happens to us.

Ironically, our fanatical pursuit of such adventure and adrenaline often takes us to the crossroads of these worlds. We find ourselves, gadgets and gear on our backs, immersed in foreign cultures where life is so full of daily needs, hardships, and risks, that the opportunity for recreation is simply non-existant. Yet, we can still travel with our freedom to explore and opportunity to play, and still rely on the protection of a safety blanket that is loyal to us wherever we go. What if we could somehow share it with the people we meet along the way, or leave it there for them after we come home, the same way we can leave a sleeping bag or other gear for those who need it more than we do?

That's what WHEELS for LIFE is all about. 

We appreciate that its a long process, and that education, facilities, and resources play equal parts in making up that net. This is an opportunity to help make the first step possible in a place where the hope of emergency medical services is still but a dream.
